Make Your Own Gift Basket – Choosing a Container

by GiftBasket on February 12, 2010

Little Red Riding Hood chose an actual basket to carry her gifts to her grandmother’s house.  But most of us don’t have to tromp through the woods, stepping over tree roots, in order to deliver our gift baskets.  Our gifts usually get there by UPS, the post office, or we simply carry it from our car up a sidewalk to the front door.  If we want, we can be a little more creative in our choices than the fairy tale character.

The right container for your gift basket depends upon the gift recipient.  Many times we give these sorts of gifts to someone “who already has everything.”  If that’s the case, something easily disposable might be appreciated.  How about putting some delicious delicacies into a Bread Bowl.  It’s still a gift baskets, even if the “basket” is edible.

Or you might choose a simple, decorated box that can be thrown away (or even used by the recipient to give someone else a gift–recycling at its most frugal).  If you have young kids, grandma might love to receive some goodies in a box that her grandchildren decorated using their own creative ideas.  A home made gift basket for sure!

A gift basket made of crystal?  If you are giving to someone who appreciates fine things, consider buying a beautiful crystal vase and filling it with gourmet chocolates.  Simple mason jars filled with colorful, home made candies can make elegant and festive gift baskets.

Does your friend entertain a lot?  One of the gift baskets we offer is sent in a functional ice bucket.  At parties I’ve hosted, I seem to spend half my time refilling the ice bucket.  Yet I never seem to remember to pick up an extra.  This way I would get not only receive a gift basket but something I need, too.

Antiques can often make great containers for the right person.  Spend part of your time at your favorite vacation destination in an antique store looking for that item that could use just a little restoration before being turned into a gift basket by filling it with cookies made from your favorite recipe.

Looking around at some of our selections at 99Giftbaskets.US should give you plenty of ideas for some containers you can use in your own gift creations.

Of course, I’d rather have you order your gift baskets from us, but it can be a lot of fun coming up with your own ideas.

Happy giving,

Greg
