Gift Baskets Make Great Corporate Incentives:
On the Job Training: How to say, “Keep up the Good Work!”
Written by Allison Mueller
Why wait until the Holiday Season–or, worse, an employee’s retirement!—to tell your employees how much you appreciate their hard work? Rather, show your staff how much they mean to you and your business today! Whether you are the CEO of a large corporation, or a small business owner with a staff of five, incorporating employee appreciation into the daily grind will improve both your individual employee’s motivation as well as enhance the overall work-place environment. Here are some tried and true methods for recognizing employees and enhancing work-place motivation:
1) Reinforce Employee Recognition with a fruit basket.
Gift baskets are one of the most convenient ways to show your employees how much you appreciate their hard work. With the variety of gift baskets available online, selecting and sending the right gift basket to an employee can be a real time saver for you, but also very meaningful to the recipient. Many businesses reward their employees with regular fruit basket deliveries; such baskets can be arranged for monthly or quarterly delivery, which provides employees with a habitual reinforcement of your appreciation. Likewise, a well-timed Cheese and Wine Basket can go a long way to tell a staff member or partner to “keep up the good work!”
2) Offer High Performing Employees Health Club Memberships
A healthy employee is a happy employee; and an office full of healthy, happy employees makes for a productive work-place. Offer high-performing employees free memberships at a local health club. And be sure to make the caliber of “high-performance” universally attainable so that the health-club membership can be available to everyone. Do not consider such an offer a budgetary loss: oftentimes health-clubs offer corporate discounts of which you might take advantage and, more importantly, healthy employees are much less likely to take sick days, and prove more productive on the job. By offering your employees health club memberships, you not only reward their hard-work but you also save yourself money and enhance the work environment.
3) Develop an “Employee of the Month” Program
For the most effective Employee of the Month Program, let employees and managers work together to choose the mensal recipient. Such a work-place-hierarchy transcending system will prevent the Employee of the Month Program from becoming a mark of favoritism, or ridicule, and will also add a sense social pressure for high employee performance. Such collaboration will also help reinforce a teamwork environment around the office. That is, employees often recognize their colleagues’ efforts, or lack thereof, in the workplace and are eager to commend someone who is really pulling his or her own. Such a program lets the employees know that not only higher-ups, but also their colleagues, see and appreciate their hard work. Display the recognition prominently in the workplace, but also offer the recipient a certificate or plaque that can be taken home.
Put some of these ideas into practice today and you will recognize a positive change in the workplace!
